Jo’s work gives visual form to feeling. Rooted in abstract expressionism, her practice has become more figurative over time, bringing the viewer closer to the emotional experience within each painting.

The human figure

The female figure often carries these experiences. Without clothing tied to a particular place or era, the figure becomes a way of exploring feelings that reach beyond individual circumstances.

Growth and transformation

Layered images suggest what lies beneath the surface. Movement and birds recur as expressions of growth and transcendence, while enlarged subjects and strong light shift the way familiar things are seen.
